Innately Intelligent?

I have been reading Outliers recommended by my colleagues, and it sure has got me thinking. I just read the chapter over genius and the threshold theory. This makes me want to research if intelligence is hereditary, and how their background affects their success. I wonder how many geniuses from poverty were successful and if so, why? I live with a man that I consider borderline genius, and often he hears from his parents, you are so smart, why are you not more successful. Now that I have read this book, I see why. He may be smarter than most but he lacks certain social skills needed for success, that others not nearly as smart as him, have. Interesting. Very. This reinforces the need for the global teaching of children, and not just academics.

  1. i think it also speaks to the idea that while we should allow gifted children to study a passion area, there are needs for them to function in modes that are not their favorite way of expression or preferred learning style.

*wow, your team gives great book recommendations!

  2. I've read several books on why gifted students (especially the highly gifted) underachieve as adults. It's really sad how disallusioned, undermotivated, and misunderstood, they are by the time they reach adulthood. could it be that we have tested the creativity right out of them? Wouldn't you love it if real project based learning with mentors form the community and business world could help us maximize the potential of these bright people? What a beautiful world it would be.
